The GF gage series is intended for use on materials with relatively low stiffness (low Young's modulus), primarily plastics.  To avoid unwanted localized reinforcement of the strain zone by the gage, the GF has an especially compliant backing material.  Available self temperature compensation (STC) values are appropriate for many plastics.
